Shaker Cabinet Door Red Oak Plain Sawn

Shown here is our Shaker cabinet door in plain sawn red oak. This door combines the timeless Shaker design with a classic beautiful American hardwood, plain sawn red oak. Red Oak wood is a straight grained with a coarse texture and prominent rays. Light reddish tan heartwood and narrow, almost white sapwood. Red Oak is a very hard and durable hardwood with great wear resistance. Oak accepts stain very well, from light to dark.

What is Plain Sawn Red Oak?

We have provided the term plain sawn, also commonly referred to as “flat sawn” for our red oak cabinet doors in order to distinguish them from the other varieties. Plain sawn is the most common of red oak sawing methods, essentially at the saw mill the log is simply cut all the way across the log/parallel to the center. This is the most common method of sawing lumber Depending on where the lumber comes from on the log such as closer to the center the grain may be more of a quarter sawn appearance, boards taken closer to the edge of the log may have more of a  cathedral grain. This mix of grain is what makes plain sawn red oak beautiful and visually interesting.

Durable 5 Piece Construction For Red Oak Shaker Doors

As with all of our Shaker cabinet doors we build we use the time tested 5 piece door construction method. This method creates a very strong door that will last for many years. Also the center panel sits in a groove in the inner door frame. Allowing the panel to freely expand and contract during changes of season .
